eTravel’s Corrective Action Plan implemented
During the month of June, the eTravel team continued to work with EDS to complete items defined in the EDS corrective action plan for the month. Together, eTravel and, EDS, the vendor selected to provide NASA with FedTraveler.com electronic travel services, were able to further assess technical solutions, identify a mutually agreeable data load strategy and develop a reporting solution.
The project is continuing to operate in a stand-down mode as a result of a number of issues with the FedTraveler.com software discovered last spring. In the meantime, the IEMP eTravel team continues to work through a limited number of activities until EDS is able to confirm it is ready to reengage with NASA.
The eTravel team remains resolute on planning for the future. The members have been hard at work assessing possible implementation strategies that would meet both the OMB requirements and a deployment plan that would best serve the Agency.
eTravel is one of the original 24 eGovernment initiatives outlined by President Bush in July of 2001. The effort is designed to make better use of information technology to make government more efficient, reduce paperwork and improve government response time to citizens. As a result, FedTraveler.com will be implemented to give NASA online booking, travel authorization, and travel vouchering capabilities.

IAM PP&E Moves into Implementation Phase
This month, the Integrated Enterprise Management Program’s Integrated Asset Management (IAM) Property, Plant and Equipment (PP&E) Project team gained a thumb’s up to proceed from the IEMP Project Management Council (PMC). The long awaited approval is crucial for the project to move into the Realization Phase; key for the project to reach a timely go live date of April 2008.
Over the last few months, the IAM PP&E team has dedicated some significant time on preparing the Centers for this project. The Project team holds weekly telecons with the Center Implementation Project Managers (CIPMs), and bi-weekly telecons with the Center Business Readiness teams. The Project is also planning for a two-day face-to-face workshop with the CIPMs and the Center Business Readiness leads later this month, which will include a half-day session with the Centers’ Supply and Equipment Management Officers. The goal of these workshops is to develop advocates for the Project, who, once they return to their respective Centers, can work together to make this implementation a success.
IAM PP&E will implement an automated asset management system that provides Agency wide accountability and visibility of PP&E assets utilized by NASA installations, programs and projects. It will also provide additional capability for the financial management of capitalized personal property to enhance the Agency’s ability to meet its requirements for financial reporting. The scope includes logistics and financial management of NASA-owned accountable personal property including equipment, internal use software, theme assets, leased personal property, and work in progress assets. In addition, NASA will use SAP to manage all capital assets and controlled assets that qualify for management currently under the NASA Equipment Management System (NEMS), the NASA Property Disposal Management System (NPDMS), and the Contractor Held Asset Tracking System (CHATS), and a web-based interface will be provided for the general user community.
